To keep your ride as tough as nails, you’ll want to clean your motorbike chain with GT85.

To help, the black ‘n’ red team have put their heads together and will be covering a trio of chain types, the standard roller chains, O-ring chains, and X-ring chains – let’s get cracking.

CLEANING ROLLER CHAINS WITH GT85
These chains haven’t got a seal to protect them, so the pins and bushing are like magnets for dirt and grime, which leads to a mess. Once these chains get clogged with gunk, they become jammed, rusted and it wears out the sprockets.

SOLUTION: give your roller chain a spray down with your favourite formula and then a good scrub. Trust us, it works a treat.

CLEANING O-RING CHAINS WITH GT85
O-ring chains come with a built-in lube seal to lock in the lube. The chain makers pre-fill the space between those pins and bushings with grease, and that’s sealed up tight by those O-rings. But don’t get too complacent – they still need some love. Those O-rings add a bit of friction to the chain’s movement.

SOLUTION: keep them slick with GT85 and keep fuss to a minimum.

CLEANING X-RING CHAINS WITH GT85
Then we’ve got the X-ring chains. These are the low-maintenance champs of the chain world. Instead of one big surface area, like the O-ring, the X-ring chain has two smaller ones. Less surface area means less friction and less wear and tear – it’s a boss at sealing stuff in.

SOLUTION: give it a quick blast of GT85 and you’re golden.
