HOW TO CLEAN A MUDDY BIKE WITH GT85 BIKE SPRAY

How to clean a muddy bike

When you’re out on the trail, pedals turning and blood pumping, who cares how dirty your bike gets. If it’s not caked in mud from top to bottom, did you even go out on it? The filth is pretty much your badge of honour. Until you get home that is… Now as tempting as it is to throw your bike in the garage and hit the shower, that badge of honour isn’t going to look so good next time you want a ride. Plus, we all know that leaving dirt and grit to fester in the components of your bike and bike chain can cause your pride and joy some real long-term damage. So read on for our insider knowledge on how to clean a muddy bike with GT85 bike spray…

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bucket of hot soapy water
  • Couple of sponges
  • Clean rag
  • Brush

STEP 1: CLEAN

While you won’t get rid of all the muck at this stage, a little prep goes a long way.

Cock your stand so the bike is stable (or prop safely against a wall) and using your fingers and/or the brush, start pulling off the caked-on grass and mud. If it’s feeling dry and stubborn, grab the garden hose. A splash of warm water will help soften everything up.

Once you’ve removed as much mud as you can, dunk a sponge into your bucket of hot soapy water.

Give everything a good, thorough wash, starting from the top and working your way down.

STEP 2: APPLY GT85 BIKE CLEANER SPRAY

GT85 bike cleaner spray is multi-purpose. It lubes, cleans and protects, which is exactly why it’s a bike’s best friend.

Disclaimer: for safety, always keep GT85 well away from your brakes and brake pads. If you’re working outside and there’s even the slightest breeze, use the red straw for precision or apply GT85 to your bike by spraying it directly onto a cloth or rag first.

To help keep your bike in great condition, use the red straw to apply GT85 to your frame tubes, drivetrain, brake callipers, chain rings, under the fork crown, and under the saddle. This will get right into all the nooks and crannies and drive out any hard-to-reach or hidden dirt.

STEP 3: PROTECT

This is where GT85’s PTFE formula really comes into its own.

Once your bike is clean and dry, apply a final coat of GT85 to the frame and components. This final application of GT85 bike spray will lubricate every working part, reduce friction and improve performance. It will also displace any remaining dirt and water, giving you great protection against rust.

Finally, use GT85 and your rag to buff up the frame. You’ll be left with a cracking shine and cleaning up next time will be a piece of cake.
