Meet HGV owner-operator and content creator Sandy MacCallum, a real down-to-earth bloke giving you insights into his life as a trucker. He’s all about getting hands-on with loading, fixing up his rig and sharing it with you lot on social media.

If you’re into HGVs, this is your guy – give him a follow and read on for more from Sandy.

Take it away Sandy.

To do the job, I carry a can of GT85 in my arsenal. This time of year, all the salt, the rain, all the mud, jams up your binders, making everything stiff, and in two seconds, GT85 makes it a lot easier and you’ll get it 10 times tighter.

I do it on the hatches as well, lubricates and protects. Even if you don’t do work like this, I would still carry it out because they dry out and it makes it a lot easier for them to slip on more securely and you know it’s all done right.

Can of GT85 protects and maintains, I carry it in my toolbox, and both sides of my lockers.

And when I run out, I’m down to my last can, I go out and buy another three-pack.

Cheers for that!

Other HGV uses with GT85:

  • Displace water from sockets
Water and moisture can cause electrical faults – so you’ll want to make sure water and moisture stays away from sockets.

If you do find water or moisture, address the root cause of the issue as it could be down to leaks, poor ventilation, or broken seals, however if it’s just surface water caused by rain, use GT85 to drive out water and moisture.

  • Clean and lubricate air couplings
GT85 keeps connections smooth, prevents rust and corrosion. It also adds years to the life of your air couplings, cuts down on wear and tear and stops air leaks in their tracks.
  • Reduce friction
Treating HGV steering and suspension components – like ball joints, U-joints, control arm connection points, tie rods and steering linkage – with lubrication is smart. These parts constantly move and pivot on the road. By reducing friction, you prevent wear and tear that comes from the daily grind. It also keeps these joints and connections working nicely, giving you a more responsive and controlled ride.
