HATS OFF TO THE GRAFT ON NATIONAL SKILLED TRADES DAY

May 7^th – mark it in your calendar because it’s National Skilled Trades Day. The day you should be patting yourself on the back for keeping the country running. Here’s to you, our sparkies, plumbers, chippies, mechanics – you name it – because these people have got the know-how.

So, if you don’t know much about your big day, educate yourself below.

ABOUT NATIONAL SKILLED TRADES DAY

This day is unbelievably still in its infancy and was only established in 2019. While it’s still early days, it’s certainly gaining steam. It started in the US by a crew called City Machine Technologies and the day is all about putting our hard-working grafters in the spotlight.

Today, National Skilled Trades Day is catching on worldwide, including here in the UK, as more people wake up to the fact that skilled workers are essential and irreplaceable.

DID YOU KNOW?

In celebration of National Skilled Trades Day, we’re spotlighting some cool celebrities who also happen to be handy.

1. Ozzy Osbourne –worked as a plumber before Black Sabbath took off.
2. Pink (Alecia Moore) –was a trained air force pilot and mechanic before hitting it big in the pop world.
3. Guy Martin – was a truck mechanic. Guy’s never left the trade, even as he became a motorcycle racer and TV presenter.
4. Whoopi Goldberg – was a builder laying foundations and building walls at the San Diego Zoo before becoming a Hollywood icon.
5. Sean Connery – was a bricklayer in Edinburgh before he took the role as James Bond.

FUTURE TRADIES

The job market is heating up as the government pumps £600 million into the country’s infrastructure. So, if you know someone looking for meaningful work and a way into a career without going to uni, this is your reminder to share the news on National Skilled Trades Day.

The UK is looking for 940,000 new recruits over the next 10 years to fill the skills gap. If you know someone who’s keen – raise awareness and pass on your graft.
