BE IN THE KNOW OF ROAD SAFETY WEEK 2026
3 min read
Since 1997, Road Safety Week was kicked off by the charity Brake with the goal to reduce deaths and serious injuries on Britian’s roads.
Fast forward 30 years and it’s become the UK’s largest annual road safety campaign, one that ties in schools, businesses, emergency services and communities to make the roads safer.
And it’s still about for good reason.
Every day, about five people lose their lives on UK roads. A quarter of those killed are pedestrians or cyclists. These aren’t simple stats – they’re people like you and me who never made it home.
THIS YEAR’S ROAD SAFETY WEEK FOCUS
If you’re driving, cycling, walking or riding – you have the responsibility to keep our roads safe. The bigger the danger, the bigger the responsibility you have.
- Watch your speed
- Pay attention
- Think before taking a risk
GETTING BEHIND THE CAUSE FOR ROAD SAFETY WEEK
You can get in on it – support Brake’s campaign and organise a Big Tea Brake fundraiser sometime in November.
The cash you raise for having a brew and a slice of cake supports families that have been affected by road crashes and it helps campaign harder for even safer roads.
CYCLISTS: KEEP YOUR BIKE IN CHECK
There’s not much between you and the road when you’re on your bike, which is why extra care is essential.
Give your bike a once-over. Check your tyres, test your brakes, make sure your lights work and keep your chain and gears in top nick.
Be visible, be predictable and never assume drivers have spotted you.
- Let GT85 sort it: squirt your chain, cables and derailleurs with your best kept secret to lube, clean and protect. That means you can keep on getting the miles in, even when the British weather does its worst.
MOTORCYCLISTS: DON’T TAKE RISKS
There’s nothing that compares to the thrill of an open road but there’s little room for error.
Check your tyres, brakes, lights and chain before hitting the road. Wear proper kit, watch your speed and keep an eye out for drivers who haven’t seen you.
- Let GT85 sort it: protect metalwork with your lavender lube. Spray it on the usual moving components to drive moisture out and keep things loosey goosey.
CAR ENTHUSIASTS: LOOK AFTER YOUR MOTOR AND OTHERS
We know keeping your car roadworthy is non-negotiable. That’s why you keep your windscreen clear, give cyclists plenty of room and check your tyres, brakes, lights and fluid levels before you set off.
You might have power under the bonnet but you know it doesn’t mean you always have to use it.
- Let GT85 sort it: free stubborn locks, lube hinges and bonnet catches. Use to clean your lights front and back, and on your paintwork and dashboard to bring back the shine.
WHAT GT85 CAN DO TO HELP KEEP YOU SAFE ON THE ROAD
GT85 isn’t a replacement for proper servicing, decent driving or common sense. But keeping your ride maintained is something you can control. Whether you’re sorting a rusty bike chain, protecting motorbike components from the elements or cleaning your car’s lights – GT85 will lube, clean and protect so you can prepare like a pro.
Make your start on Road Safety Week before you turn a wheel.
