How to rust proof your motor this spring
2 min read
As you know, there’s more moisture in the air in the winter, and when combined with iron metals, a chemical reaction takes place and causes rust, and the fresh, salty grit on the road speeds up this process. And spring’s no walk in the park either, especially with morning dew about, so get one step ahead of rust.
The black ‘n’ red team are here to talk you through rust proofing your motor.
How to rust proof the underbody and chassis of your car
Rust often effects the underbody of a car first, so look at this area initially when rust proofing your vehicle. You will want to check, lube, clean and protect any areas made of steel or metal, such as the:
- Exhaust
- Exposed parts
- Frame rails
- Leaf springs
- Nuts and bolts
- Suspension
- Weld seams
- Wheel wells
What you will want to do is spray an old rag with GT85 – be liberal to give the parts above extra protection – then wipe them down. And if you really want to get in there with your favourite formula, place on the red straw, aim and apply.
How to rust proof the shell of a car
Checking for rust on the shell of your car is much easier, as it’s much more visible and easier to get to. Walk around your vehicle and check the:
- Doors inside and out
- Windshield
- Wing mirrors
- Rear window
- Paintwork – if you see bubbling, it’s likely to be an early sign of rust
To protect the areas mentioned above, spray your trusty formula on an old rag and wipe down the surfaces to remove rust, lube, clean and protect. Put in a bit of elbow grease and your motor will shine right up.
